The left-hander made noise prior to San Francisco’s

Vikings jersey

The San Francisco Giants would prefer Jonathan Sanchez(notes) let his pitching, not his mouth, do the talking against the San Diego Padres.
Sanchez looks to help the Giants move into a first-place tie in the NL West with a second straight victory over the division-leading Padres on Friday night at Petco Park.
The left-hander made noise prior to San Francisco’s home series with San Diego last month when he predicted the Giants would sweep the three-game set and supplant the Padres atop the West standings. That never happened as San Diego won two of cheap nfl jerseys
three.
Sanchez (10-8, 3.39 ERA) fell to 0-3 with a 3.08 ERA in four starts versus San Diego this year after he allowed three runs in 5 1-3 innings of a 3-2 loss in the Aug. 13 opener of that set.
This time around, Sanchez is keeping quiet.
“I have nothing to say,” Sanchez told the Giants’ official website. “And that’s the way I feel about it.”
His teammates and coaches are glad.
“He was talked to,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “He was told to just go out there and pitch. Those types of things don’t need to be said.”
Though Sanchez is 2-5 in 10 starts against the Padres, he’s posted a 2.84 ERA in those outings. His teammates have given him an average of 1.37 runs of support versus San Diego in 2010.
Sanchez, however, is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in four starts since losing to the Padres (79-60). He gave up three hits and struck out nine in seven innings of a 3-0 win at Los Angeles on Sunday.
“I just get better every day,” said Sanchez, who has allowed one run over 15 innings of his last two starts.
The Giants (79-62) moved within one game of Indianapolis Colts jersey
the Padres after a 7-3 win in Thursday’s opener. San Francisco has won just three times in 12 games against San Diego this season, and is 2-4 at Petco.
“We’ve had some bad times against these guys, so winning the first one is big for us,” winning pitcher Matt Cain(notes) said.
Aubrey Huff(notes) had three hits and one of four home runs for the Giants, who have won eight of 11. The Padres, meanwhile, have dropped 11 of 14.
“You view this as an opportunity,” Giants reliever Javier Lopez(notes) said. “There’s an opportunity to keep the pressure on them.”
Huff is 9 for 21 with two homers in his last five games, and 6 for 15 against scheduled starter Clayton Richard(notes) (12-6, 3.43).
After losing his only appearance versus San Francisco last season, Richard is 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA in four starts against the Giants in 2009. He allowed two runs in six innings and outpitched Sanchez in San Diego’s series-opening victory at San Francisco last month.
The left-hander, 5-1 with a 3.04 ERA in his last eight starts, allowed two runs in six innings but did not factor in the decision of a 4-2 loss to Colorado on Sunday.
Ryan Ludwick(notes) and Will Venable(notes) each homered Minnesota Vikings jersey
Thursday for the Padres, who were held to four or fewer runs for the 13th straight game.
Ludwick is batting .225 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 36 games since being traded to San Diego, but is 8 for 19 in his last five against the Giants.

Experimental Spain suffer at hands of fired-up Argentina

Colts jersey

MADRID, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Spain’s 4-1 defeat by Argentina on Tuesday underlined that there is no such thing as a friendly when you are the world champions.
Vicente del Bosque chose to start with a line up including up football jersey
to five ‘squad players’ in Buenos Aires and watched a fired up Argentina storm to victory.
Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez had the hosts 3-0 up at halftime, proving perhaps that repairing damaged pride in front of your own fans after a disappointing World Cup was a stronger motivating factor than impressing your boss for a starting place.
It was the first time since August 2000 that Spain had conceded four goals in a match, when they lost by the same scoreline away to Germany in a friendly.
“Defeats hurt, but at the same time they should be beneficial for the team,” Del Bosque told reporters.
Spain cruised to a 4-0 win away to Liechtenstein in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier last Friday, but the famous Monumental stadium proved a far tougher test even though it was a friendly.
“These contrasting games Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
are important,” he added. “We have to know how to play against weaker teams and the great teams in the same way.”
Del Bosque argued the defeat was heavier than they deserved and stood by his decision to field fringe players such as Alvaro Arbeloa and Nacho Monreal in defence and Pepe Reina in goal.
“We can’t play the same players every day,” Del Bosque said. “We have to remember it’s the start of the season. I’m thinking of the clubs but above all else the players.
“There are league and Champions League matches just round the corner.”
First-team regulars Fernando Torres, Xavi and Iniesta were all called up for the latest round of internationals despite doubts over their fitness.
Torres, who scored twice in Liechtenstein, did not feature in Argentina and the Barca duo played 45 minutes each.
Argentina fans may have been Indianapolis Colts jersey
disappointed, but club managers such as Liverpool’s Roy Hodgson and Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola will have been a little happier.

England beats Switzerland 3-1 in Euro qualifier

BASEL, Switzerland (AP)—Wayne Rooney made some positive news.
The star forward put aside the embarrassing headlines about his personal life to score his first goal for England in nearly a year, sparking the Three Lions to 3-1 win Tuesday over Switzerland in a European Championship qualifier.
Rooney scored in the 10th minute, slotting home Glen nfl jersey
Johnson’s pass for his first England goal since last Sept. 9 against Croatia.
“He was focused on the game. The whole team played very well, not only Rooney,” England coach Fabio Capello said.
Capello insisted on Monday that it was best for Rooney to play to escape the pressure in his personal life following Sunday tabloid stories alleging he cheated on his pregnant wife last year with a prostitute.
Rooney scored off a Johnson pass that was perfectly dummied by Jermain Defoe. Arriving late and unmarked, Rooney slotted home in front of goal.
It was a 26th international goal for the Manchester United forward, who was then joined on the field by a fifth Manchester City player when Adam Johnson replaced Theo Walcott, who was injured in the scoring move. The Arsenal winger was taken to hospital for scan on a suspected sprained right ankle.
Substitute Adam Johnson rounded Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
goalkeeper Diego Benaglio to make it 2-0 in the 69th, four minutes after Swiss right back Stephan Lichtsteiner was ejected for fouling James Milner.
Teenager Xherdan Shaqiri gave Switzerland hope with a long-range goal in the 71st, but England substitute Darren Bent sealed the game in the 88th with a low shot.
“They were able to wait for counter attacks and bring the game home,” Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said.
Following its 4-1 loss to Germany in the second round of the World Cup, Capello’s team opened Euro 2012 qualifying with back-to-back wins. The Three Lions routed Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley last Friday.
“We are very good because we are fresh. (The players’) minds are free,” Capello said. “Switzerland is the most important opponent for our group. To win here is really, really important, not only for the result but the performance.”
England resumes Group G play at home against Montenegro on Oct. 12, four days after Switzerland travels to the Montenegrins.
The England coach opted to partner former Dallas Cowboys jersey
Everton teammates Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott in central defense, with regular starters Rio Ferdinand and John Terry out injured.
England soon mastered a wet field soaked by a downpour during the warmups and scored at the end occupied by its 3,000 traveling fans.

Argentina upsets Spain 4-1

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP)—Spain hardly resembled a World Cup champion against Argentina.
The Spanish lost for the first time since winning the nfl throwback jerseys
title in July, allowing their most goals in a decade in a 4-1 exhibition defeat at Argentina on Tuesday night.
“Argentina was the reason that Spain was not the Spain we are used to seeing,” said Albiceleste interim coach Sergio Batista, who replaced Diego Maradona after the World Cup. “We beat a great team, and things went like we had hoped.”
Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez scored first-half goals, assisted by shaky goalkeeping from Spanish backup Pepe Reina.
Starting instead of No. 1 Iker Casillas, Reina played a part in each goal. Messi lobbed him in the 10th minute and Higuain beat him from a sharp angle in the 13th. Tevez scored in the 34th after Reina slipped trying to clear a ball.
Fernando Llorente scored in the 84th for Spain, and Sergio Aguero made it 4-1 for Argentina seconds into second-half injury time
Spain had not allowed four goals since a 4-1 exhibition defeat at Germany in August 2000.
“It did not surprise me that Argentina was Minnesota Vikings jersey
better than us, particularly in the first half,” La Furia Roja Vicente Del Bosque said. “We lost with dignity, and we are not looking for excuses to devalue Argentina’s victory.”
It was the second victory for Batista, who took over from Maradona following a 4-0 loss to Germany in the World Cup quarterfinals. Argentina defeated Ireland 1-0 in an exhibition last month.
Spain started just five of the 11 players from its lineup against the Netherlands in the World Cup final: defender Gerard Pique; midfielders Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Xabi Alonso; and forward David Villa. Xavi Hernandez entered as a 57th-minute sub for Cesc Fabregas.
Before a sellout crowd of 55,000 at River Plate’s Monumental Stadium, the game was played under a light rain. Villa hit a post and the crossbar in the first half.
Spain came to Argentina after opening European Indianapolis Colts jersey
Championship qualifying Friday with a 4-0 win at Liechtenstein. In a busy stretch, Messi and his Barcelona teammates on the Spanish national team play their La Liga home opener Saturday against Hercules, then begin the Champions League on Tuesday at home against Panathinaikos.

Albert Haynesworth on way out?

Exhausted by the distraction and lack of effort from Albert Haynesworth, the Washington Redskins have once again gauged trade interest in the defensive tackle from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, according to team sources. It is at least the second occasion the Redskins have had discussions regarding Haynesworth with the Titans since Mike Shanahan was named Washington's coach in January.
The Titans definitely would welcome back Haynesworth, a team source said, but maintained that the Redskins' asking price was still too high. The nfl throwback jerseys
Redskins are believed to want at least two draft picks for Haynesworth.
A Redskins spokesman said he was unaware of any trade discussions involving Haynesworth but sources say the dialogue occurred over the weekend.
The Titans declined to comment, but Titans coach Jeff Fisher was asked about the team's interest Tuesday night during his weekly radio show on WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone, and he said Haynesworth is under contract with the Redskins.
"If they're willing to look into the possibility of dealing him, of course we'll listen to them. We listen to those types of things almost every day," Fisher said.
"This just happens to be a big story because of the circumstances and the situation that arose with the offseason payment and then of course with all the drama associated with the offseason conditioning and the conditioning test and everything. Our focus right now is on the Raiders."
Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb said Tuesday on his weekly radio show on ESPN 980 that he hopes Haynesworth stays in Washington.
"Albert is one of our brothers in the locker room ... he understands, 'Hey, I got to put the time and effort in," McNabb said. "We can't win without him. I think he'll be here. I hope he'll be here."
Haynesworth has been a thorn in Shanahan's side since the coach took the Redskins job. Haynesworth drew Shanahan's ire by staying away from the Indianapolis Colts jersey
offseason program and later lobbied for a trade because he didn't want to play nose tackle in the team's new 3-4 defense. Shanahan gave Haynesworth a chance to leave -- provided Haynesworth didn't stay around to accept a $21 million contract bonus on April 1. Haynesworth took the bonus.
Haynesworth also skipped a mandatory minicamp and was fined. When he showed up for training camp, he was made to pass a conditioning test before he could practice. After several failed attempts and several days of idleness because of a sore knee, he finally passed the test on the 10th day of camp.
Haynesworth then missed another week of training camp due to illness. Shanahan gave varying explanations for Haynesworth's idleness each day. The coach initially said Haynesworth "just was sick," then said the cause was dehydration, then finally said it was "more of a headache than anything else."
As the most highly sought free agent of 2009, Haynesworth signed a $100 million contract with the Redskins, including $41 million in guaranteed money. Haynesworth will earn a guaranteed $3.6 million in 2010 and $5.4 million in 2011.
Haynesworth has collected approximately $32 million of his guaranteed money in his one-plus season with Washington.
The Titans have missed Haynesworth's presence in the middle of their line, slumping to 31 sacks without him helping collapse offensive lines. He managed only four sacks with the Redskins himself, a big dip from his 8½ sacks in 2008 with Tennessee.
And the Titans know him well, having drafted Haynesworth in the first round in 2002. They used the franchise tag to keep Haynesworth in 2008 to help keep him focused, and the deal they eventually offered in 2009 was nowhere near what he got from Washington in the first hours of Minnesota Vikings jersey
free agency.
The former University of Tennessee lineman has 28 career sacks and six forced fumbles in his first eight NFL seasons.

Gailey Confirms Fitzpatrick As Bills' Backup Quarterback

When the Buffalo Bills kept both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm on their 53-man roster over the weekend, many Bills fans openly wondered which quarterback would serve as the primary backup to starter Trent Edwards entering the season. Chan Gailey put tofootball jerseys
rest any speculation on that front Monday after practice, confirming that Fitzpatrick is the Bills' No. 2.

That puts Brohm at third on Dallas Cowboys jersey
the depth chart, and he will serve as the emergency quarterback in Week 1 against Miami. He will not count as one of the team's 45 active players for that contest.

Fitzpatrick out-performed Brohm in the preseason, completing 65.2% of his passes with two scores in just two appearances. He led the Bills to a 5-4 record in games where he saw the majority of first-team reps in 2009, and is in the second of Dallas Cowboys jersey
a three-year deal he signed last March.

Now let's keep our fingers crossed that he won't need to see the field.
